Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the
receipt of your telegram of the 5th. instant of which a
copy is enclosed, and to transmit herewith for the signi- fication of Her Majesty's pleasure Ordinance No.10 of
1900 entitled:-
19th April, 1900,
with the customary
"an Ordinance to validate and legalise the
•nly General, dated "proceedings of the Legislative Council of this
12th April, 1900.

"Colony during the time that Mr. Arthur Winbolt Brewin
"illegally sat as a member of such Council under an
"invalid provisional appointment",
which was passed yesterday in accordance with your instruc-
tions.
The directions contained in your tele-
gram have been implicitly followed, and I have to express
the regret of this Government for the trouble that has
been caused in this matter.
